A six month student trip in Vaasa

East-West Business Studies have been constructed keeping in mind the special needs of companies working in the changing markets of Eastern Europe. The studies cover East-West business in the fields of marketing, management, accounting and finance, and business law. In addition, study trips to North-West Russia or the Baltic countries have been organised each year.

1. Business Operations in Eastern Europe.
Objective: The course aims to offer the students basic understanding of the business environment in Eastern Europe, planning and implementation of the entry strategies, business culture and management practices of the East European enterprises and different exchange processes taking place between the business partners from Western and Eastern Europe.

2. Marketing Strategies and Management in Central and Eastern Europe
Objective: The aim of the course is to develop conceptual skills, as well as a framework of analysis, and an understanding of marketing and management concepts applicable to the economies in transition in Central and Eastern Europe.

3. Seminar in East-West Business
Objective: The aim of this course is to increase the student's knowledge in East-West business by specializing in one specific topic regarded as relevant and interesting by the student. For this project I choose two subjects: "Structure and development trends of Russia food markets, with the French corporation Carrefour" and teh second is " Structure and trends of Russia Information Technologies market". For the moment I don't chose one of them. I have my first presentation on the 15th of March.

Teacher Olli Raatikainen / Contact person Suvi Isohella Course objective: Goal is to offer basic historical and technical information concerning multimedia and hypertext. Approach is mainly theoretical, but also some practical applications are presented.

Our first task for this course was to read the text about

Information Systems and Information Networks Usage Policy at the University of Vaasa. What is the purpose of the text? In your opinion, what is the most important thing in the list and why? This reading permit us to discover different point of view about the same text, what is the most important for each person.

The second task was surfing the net and look at portfolios and blogs where people tell about their studies. Choose one portfolio or blog you like and tell about it here. Each student had chose his most favorite blog on Internet: so we discovered the differents hobbies and center of interest (sport, design, economy,etc.)

The third and last task is this blog, where we have to creat some articles about us, about the university, the courses. This project is interesting because it permit to us to know how to use differents Internet tools (including videos, photos, Gif animations, in the web pages) in order to increase our multimedia skills.

This courses will stop at the end of february, when our teacher will give us a mark regarding how well we have done the three tasks. But don't worry my blog will be updated the more often I can.

If i choose Finland it was for the differences between this country and France. May be countries like England or Spain are very closed to France on severals aspects: Culture, Stories/Past, Way of life, Food,etc.

In Finland there are a lot a things to discover: people here feels very different from France: they are more friendly (lol), more open, they always help you when you need it. For exemple when if you have too many lugages with you and you can't carry easily everything on order to go outside from the train (for example) some people wait for you in order to help you. In France nobody wait for you (especially in Big city) or if they are waiting for it's because they wan to steal yours lugages (it's not sure, but everybody think this).

Futhermore we can observe in a city like Vaasa, if you are going for a walk outside, just listen: it's calm and relax, no noise. It's fir these kinds of things I like Finland.

And what about the climate: so cool to walk on the sea, to heard the noise of yours steps in the snow, to feel the cold freezing yours fingers and yours ears. lol. Before coming here i didn't know for example that a building which is 10 meters height can generate a shadow around 300 meters far because of the low level of the sun... it's Unbelievable !!!

I won't tell you about the food, I think you know why... France what else??? LOL
